US Navy PB4Y-2 Privateer Patch — Consolidated PB4Y-2 Privateer Patrol Bomber Embroidered Patch
Privateer — the Navy's dedicated long-range patrol bomber.
The PB4Y-2 Privateer was a United States Navy long-range patrol bomber derived from the Consolidated B-24 Liberator but extensively redesigned for the maritime patrol mission. Unlike the Army Air Forces' B-24, the Privateer featured a single vertical tail, longer fuselage, more powerful engines, and specialized maritime search radar — making it a purpose-built naval aircraft rather than a modified Army bomber.
The PB4Y-2 Privateer entered service in 1945 and served extensively in the final months of World War II, conducting anti-submarine patrols, maritime reconnaissance, and anti-shipping strikes across the Pacific. After the war, Privateers continued serving in patrol squadrons during the early Cold War, flying dangerous reconnaissance missions along the borders of the Soviet Union and Communist China. Several Privateers were shot down by Soviet and Chinese fighters during these intelligence-gathering flights, making the type one of the earliest casualties of the Cold War. The Privateer also served with distinction during the Korean War and was later adapted for hurricane hunting and firefighting roles, demonstrating remarkable versatility throughout its service life.
This patch honors the PB4Y-2 Privateer and its crews.
Perfect For: PB4Y-2 Privateer veterans, WWII and Cold War naval aviation historians, patrol bomber enthusiasts, and vintage aircraft patch collectors.
