Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 8 (HS-8), the Eightballers, was a U.S. Navy helicopter squadron that operated the H-3 Sea King, deploying as part of carrier air wings to provide anti-submarine warfare, combat search and rescue, and utility support. The Eightballers took their pool-table-inspired name and ran with it, building a squadron identity around the iconic black eight ball. HS-8 deployed aboard Pacific Fleet aircraft carriers, conducting ASW patrols and rescue missions across the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. Their legacy lives on in the helicopter sea combat and maritime strike communities.
