The CBP Del Rio Air Unit operates along the Texas-Mexico border in the Del Rio sector, one of the most active areas for illegal crossings and smuggling activity in the Southwest. The unit's patch features a werewolf design — with glow-in-the-dark eyes and teeth — rooted in the unit's previous Border Patrol heritage and reflecting the nocturnal nature of much of their enforcement mission. Del Rio Air Unit pilots and agents fly surveillance, detection, and interdiction missions over the rugged terrain along the Rio Grande, supporting ground-based Border Patrol operations with aerial eyes that can cover vast distances of open brush country. The glow-in-the-dark elements make this patch distinctive and operationally fitting for a unit that does much of its best work after sunset.
