US Army Air Corps WWII Flying Tigers Sticker

U.S. Army Air Corps — World War II Flying Tigers Heritage Sticker

The Flying Tigers were the legendary American Volunteer Group (AVG) of the Republic of China Air Force, a unit of American pilots and ground crew who fought Japanese forces in China and Burma from December 1941 through July 1942. Recruited from U.S. Army, Navy, and Marine Corps aviation units under the command of Claire L. Chennault, the AVG flew Curtiss P-40 Warhawk fighters painted with the iconic shark-mouth nose art that became their trademark. In just seven months of combat, the Flying Tigers destroyed approximately 300 enemy aircraft while losing only 14 pilots in aerial combat — an extraordinary kill ratio that made them legends.

The AVG was officially disbanded on 4 July 1942 and absorbed into the U.S. Army Air Forces as the 23rd Fighter Group, which continued the Flying Tigers legacy throughout the remainder of World War II and beyond. The original AVG pilots, including famous aces like Robert L. Scott, David Lee "Tex" Hill, and Gregory "Pappy" Boyington (who later commanded VMF-214, the "Black Sheep"), earned Distinguished Flying Crosses, Silver Stars, and lasting fame for their combat exploits defending the Burma Road and Chinese airspace against overwhelming odds.

The shark-mouthed P-40 Warhawk and the distinctive AVG patch — featuring a winged tiger leaping through a "V" for victory — remain among the most recognized symbols of American aviation heritage and the spirit of the volunteer warriors who answered the call before Pearl Harbor brought America officially into the war.

Perfect For: Flying Tigers heritage enthusiasts, World War II aviation historians, P-40 Warhawk aficionados, U.S. Army Air Corps collectors, and admirers of American volunteer warriors.

The Flying Tigers — American volunteers who earned their stripes in the skies over China before Pearl Harbor, forever legends of World War II aviation.
