The United States Space Force (USSF) is the space service branch of the United States Armed Forces, established on 20 December 2019 as part of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020. The Space Force became the sixth independent branch of the U.S. military and the first new branch since the Air Force was established in 1947. Organized under the Department of the Air Force—similar to how the Marine Corps is organized under the Department of the Navy—the Space Force is responsible for organizing, training, and equipping space forces to protect U.S. and allied interests in space and provide space capabilities to the joint force.

The Space Force's motto, "Semper Supra"—Latin for "Always Above"—reflects the service's mission of maintaining superiority in the space domain. Headquartered at the Pentagon with Space Operations Command at Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado, the USSF comprises approximately 16,000 military and civilian personnel. The service's delta insignia draws inspiration from the original Air Force Space Command emblem and represents the upward trajectory of space operations and the service's role as the guardian of the ultimate high ground.
