OH-58 Kiowa Vietnam Era Scout Patch

Unarmed and unafraid — recon by sacrifice.

This classic Vietnam-era scout patch captures the spirit of the OH-58 Kiowa's earliest and most dangerous days. When the Kiowa first entered service in Vietnam, it flew as a light observation helicopter — often unarmed, always low, and perpetually in harm's way. Scout pilots flew ahead of the main formation, skimming treetops and rice paddies to locate enemy positions, draw fire, and mark targets for the gunships that followed. The motto "Unarmed and Unafraid" and "Recon by Sacrifice" were not boasts but statements of fact — OH-58 scout missions in Vietnam had some of the highest casualty rates in Army aviation. This patch honors the pilots and observers who volunteered for the most exposed seat in the war.

Perfect For:
Vietnam-era OH-58 scout pilots, Army aerial observation veterans, cavalry scout aviators, and collectors preserving the earliest chapter of the Kiowa's legacy.

For those who flew first and flew low.
