Officially Licensed VT-4 Warbucks Tactical Patch — Training Squadron 4 NAS Pensacola Naval Flight Officer Simulator-Based Training Tactical (Subdued) Embroidered Patch
The Navy's only simulator-based squadron, in low-vis tactical — VT-4 Warbucks, NFOs in the field.
Training Squadron 4 (VT-4), the "Warbucks," is a US Navy training squadron based at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, operating under Training Air Wing SIX (CTW-6) and the Chief of Naval Air Training (CNATRA). VT-4 was originally established in July 1958 as Basic Training Group 9 (BTG-9) at NAS Memphis, Tennessee, and was redesignated Training Squadron FOUR (VT-4) on May 1, 1960 at NAS Pensacola, where it has remained ever since. The squadron's mission has evolved significantly across more than six decades — initially providing basic jet flight instruction in the T-2A Buckeye (1960), transitioning through the T-2B (1965), T-2C (1971), TF-9J Cougar (1972), and TA-4J Skyhawk (1973), shifting to E-2/C-2 training in 1985 and advanced E-2/C-2 training in 1992, then converting to Naval Flight Officer (NFO) and Navigator training in 1996 — expanding student throughput from 36 to 450 annually. VT-4 began integrating the T-6A Texan II in January 2003 and completed the full transition from the T-34C Turbo Mentor in April 2005. After reactivation in June 2013, VT-4 transitioned to its current and unique role as the Navy's only simulator-based training squadron in November 2014, training Student Naval Flight Officers for the E-2 Hawkeye, E-6 Mercury, and P-8 Poseidon communities entirely through advanced full-motion simulator training. This tactical (subdued) variant of the standard Warbucks patch is a low-visibility version for use on flight gear and tactical uniforms.
Perfect For: VT-4 Warbucks instructor naval flight officers and student NFOs, NAS Pensacola residents and Florida Panhandle naval aviation community, Training Air Wing SIX (CTW-6) personnel, CNATRA staff, E-2 Hawkeye, E-6 Mercury, and P-8 Poseidon NFO pipeline alumni, T-2 Buckeye and TA-4J Skyhawk heritage instructors, and naval aviation simulator-based training enthusiasts.
