Officially Licensed USMC VMFA-314 Black Knights PVC Patch — Marine Fighter Attack Squadron Patch
The Black Knights — one of the Marine Corps' most storied fighter attack squadrons, with a combat record spanning eight decades.
VMFA-314 "Black Knights" was commissioned as VMF-314 on October 1, 1943, at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina. The squadron flew F4U Corsairs in the Pacific during World War II, earning distinction at Okinawa and in the Philippines campaign. In Korea, the Black Knights flew close air support missions in F-9F Panthers and later F-4 Phantoms. VMFA-314 transitioned to the F/A-18A Hornet and deployed in support of Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Southern Watch, and Iraqi Freedom. Based at MCAS Miramar under MAG-11, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, the Black Knights became the first operational Marine Corps squadron to receive the F-35C Lightning II in January 2020 — ushering in a new era of fifth-generation Marine fighter aviation.
