Officially Licensed USMC VMUT-2 Night Owls Squadron Patch - Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Training Squadron 2 (VMUT-2) MQ-9A Reaper Officially Licensed Embroidered Patch.
Night Owls identity, UAS training authority, and the forward edge of Marine Corps unmanned aviation — stitched into one officially licensed patch.
VMUT-2 has been active since June 1984, operating out of Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, under Marine Aircraft Group 14 and the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. Originally designated VMU-2, the squadron spent decades providing aerial surveillance, offensive air support, and electronic warfare capability for the II Marine Expeditionary Force, logging combat deployments across Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Allies Refuge. In July 2023 the squadron was redesignated VMUT-2 as it transitioned away from the RQ-21A Blackjack and took on a new mission as the Marine Corps MQ-9A Reaper Fleet Replacement Squadron, responsible for training UAS pilots and enlisted sensor operators. The first MQ-9A Reaper flight at Cherry Point followed in November 2024, and VMUT-2 graduated its first class of Reaper-qualified pilots and sensor operators in 2025. The squadron now sits at the center of Marine Corps Force Design efforts, preparing crews for distributed maritime operations, littoral missions, and expeditionary advanced base operations. This officially licensed embroidered patch carries that full arc of Night Owls history — from early UAV reconnaissance to the leading edge of Marine unmanned aviation training.
Perfect For: VMUT-2 veterans and current squadron members, Marine UAS pilots and sensor operators, VMU-2 alumni, MAG-14 and 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing collectors, MCAS Cherry Point supporters, II MEF aviation enthusiasts, shadow box and display board builders, reunion gifts, deployment keepsakes, and anyone assembling a serious Marine Corps aviation patch collection that traces the evolution of unmanned systems from early reconnaissance platforms to the MQ-9A Reaper era.
Night Owls heritage, officially licensed, and stitched for every Marine who flew the mission or trained the crew.
