The Basic School (TBS) at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, is the Marine Corps' officer training course that every newly commissioned officer must attend. Over a six-month course, lieutenants learn infantry tactics, weapons employment, land navigation, leadership, and the fundamentals of being a Marine officer. TBS ensures that every Marine officer, regardless of their eventual MOS, understands ground combat and can lead Marines in any environment.
