Marine Wing Support Squadron 174 (MWSS-174), the "Gryphons," is a United States Marine Corps aviation ground support unit assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 24 (MAG-24) under the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing at MCAS Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. MWSS-174 provides the essential airfield services and ground support that enable Marine aviation squadrons to operate — including expeditionary airfield construction, aircraft rescue and firefighting, motor transport, engineer support, utilities, and airfield damage repair.
The Gryphons are the unsung heroes of Marine aviation, ensuring that runways are operational, fuel systems are flowing, utilities are powered, and the airfield security perimeter is maintained. Operating under U.S. Indo-Pacific Command's area of responsibility, MWSS-174 supports Marine aviation operations across the vast Pacific theater, deploying to austere locations where they build and sustain the aviation infrastructure that Marine squadrons need to project air power. The Aviation Ground Support Division (AGSD) within the squadron provides specialized services that keep the airfield running around the clock, in any conditions.
