USMC Aircraft Rescue & Firefighting Sticker

United States Marine Corps Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF)

Marine Corps Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting specialists, designated by Military Occupational Specialty 7051, serve as the first responders to aircraft emergencies across every Marine Corps air station and forward operating base worldwide. ARFF Marines are trained at the Department of Defense Fire Academy at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas, where they complete three months of intensive instruction in structural firefighting, aircraft rescue and firefighting, hazardous materials operations, and Emergency Medical Responder certification.

ARFF crews operate in teams of four — including a turret operator, hand-line specialist, and rescue specialist — and are required to respond to aircraft emergencies within five minutes of dispatch while wearing full protective gear. Their primary apparatus is the P-19R Aircraft Rescue and Structural Firefighting Vehicle, which carries 1,000 gallons of water, 130 gallons of foam, and 500 pounds of Halotron, with dual turrets capable of dispensing up to 750 gallons of water per minute. ARFF Marines have deployed to combat zones worldwide, including Al Asad Air Base during Operation Iraqi Freedom, MCAS Futenma in Okinawa, and forward airfields across Afghanistan.

ARFF specialists maintain certifications in hazmat awareness, hazmat operations, and ARFF firefighting, serving both on the "wing side" with deployable Marine Wing Support Squadrons and on the "station side" staffing air station fire departments. In 2023, the ARFF Marines at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, earned recognition as the USMC Medium Fire Department of the Year for outstanding operational performance.

Perfect For: ARFF Marines past and present, MOS 7051 specialists, Marine Wing Support Squadron members, air station firefighting personnel, military firefighters across all branches, and emergency response professionals.

A tribute to the Marines who run toward the flames — rescuing aircrew, suppressing fires, and safeguarding flight operations at every Marine Corps air station around the globe.
