The 5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade is a forward-deployed MAGTF headquarters based at Naval Support Activity Bahrain, serving as the crisis response force for U.S. Central Command. First activated during World War I, 5th MEB served in France supporting the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, the brigade sailed 11,000 Marines through the Panama Canal to the Caribbean. In Desert Storm, the 5th MEB conducted the amphibious landing of 7,500 Marines at Al Mish'ab, Saudi Arabia — supporting deception operations that fixed Iraqi divisions and enabled the coalition's 100-hour ground campaign. Reactivated in 2015 as Task Force 51/5th MEB, the brigade today provides a standing, joint-capable headquarters ready for expeditionary operations across the Middle East.
