2nd Reconnaissance Battalion is the ground reconnaissance and surveillance unit of the 2nd Marine Division at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Recon Marines are among the most highly trained and physically demanding specialties in the Marine Corps, selected through a rigorous screening process and trained in amphibious reconnaissance, deep reconnaissance and surveillance, direct action, and special operations. 2nd Recon provides the II Marine Expeditionary Force with the ability to insert small, highly trained teams by land, sea, or air into denied areas to gather intelligence, conduct surveillance, and report back the information that shapes the battlefield before the main force arrives. Recon Marines complete the Basic Reconnaissance Course, Combatant Diver Course, and military free-fall parachute training, giving them the ability to insert by any means necessary. The battalion has deployed in every major conflict since Vietnam, conducting the kind of high-risk, high-reward missions that require the most capable Marines in the Corps. This patch represents the quiet professionals of 2nd Recon.
