USS Idaho (SSN 799) was commissioned on April 25, 2026, at Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Connecticut, becoming the 26th Virginia-class submarine in the fleet and the eighth Block IV variant of the class. Built by General Dynamics Electric Boat and HII Newport News Shipbuilding, the 7,800-ton, 377-foot submarine carries 12 vertical launch system tubes, four torpedo tubes for Mk-48 weapons, and BGM-109 Tomahawk missiles. Virginia-class submarines are designed for enhanced stealth, sophisticated surveillance, and special warfare missions across both open-ocean and littoral environments.
