Officially Licensed US Navy Project Hellcat Training Wing 4 Patches — The Future of Naval Aviation Training, Named for a Legend
This isn't your grandfather's flight school — but it's named after his fighter.
Project Hellcat is the Chief of Naval Air Training's (CNATRA) groundbreaking prototype intermediate flight training syllabus, developed at Training Air Wing 4 (TW-4) at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas. Named after the legendary Grumman F6F Hellcat — the carrier-based fighter that dominated the Pacific skies in World War II — Project Hellcat represents a revolutionary new phase in how the Navy trains its tactical jet pipeline aviators. Traditionally, student naval aviators went straight from primary training to advanced jets with no intermediate step. Project Hellcat changes that by introducing an intermediate phase that uses the T-6B Texan II to teach foundational strike maneuver concepts before students ever climb into the cockpit of a T-45C Goshawk — saving significant cost while producing more proficient aviators. The program integrates cutting-edge virtual reality and mixed-reality trainers, 360-degree flight videos, digital tablets with on-demand course content, and dedicated instructor pilot mentors in a small-class detachment environment. The first class of eight student naval aviators graduated from Project Hellcat in February 2022, and the program has become a cornerstone of the Naval Aviation Training Next (NATN) initiative alongside Project Avenger for primary training and Project Corsair for advanced strike. This officially licensed patch represents the future of how America builds its fighter pilots — smarter, faster, and ready to win.
