HSM-37 was established on 3 July 1975 at Naval Air Station Barbers Point, Hawaii, originally as Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light Three Seven. The squadron earned a place in naval aviation history by becoming the first U.S. Navy unit to transition from the SH-2F Seasprite to the SH-60B Seahawk in 1992, and it later moved to Marine Corps Base Hawaii on Kaneohe Bay in 1999. Redesignated HSM-37 on 1 October 2013, the Easyriders completed a full transition to the MH-60R Seahawk, a platform that brought upgraded radar, dipping sonar, an all-glass cockpit, and a multispectral targeting system to every Pearl Harbor-based detachment. The squadron supports all Arleigh Burke-class destroyers and Ticonderoga-class cruisers homeported at Pearl Harbor, making it the backbone of surface and anti-submarine warfare helicopter coverage across the Central Pacific.
