Officially Licensed US Navy HSC-26 Chargers Squadron Patch — Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 26 MH-60S Knighthawk Naval Station Norfolk Embroidered Patch
From HU-2 paddles to MH-60S Knighthawks — the Chargers carry the deepest helicopter heritage in the East Coast HSC fleet.
Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 26 (HSC-26), the "Chargers," is a US Navy expeditionary helicopter squadron based at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia, currently flying the Sikorsky MH-60S Knighthawk. The squadron carries one of the deepest helicopter lineages in the US Navy — its heritage traces back to 1948 when Helicopter Utility Squadron 2 (HU-2) was commissioned at Naval Air Station Lakehurst, New Jersey, as the second US Naval helicopter squadron. In 1960 HU-2 split to form HU-4, and on September 1, 1967 an HU-4 detachment based at NAS Norfolk became Helicopter Combat Support Squadron 6 (HC-6) — the original "Chargers." HC-6 initially focused on search and rescue (SAR), expanding to vertical replenishment (VERTREP) and combat logistics support, and by 1987 had transitioned to the Boeing-Vertol H-46D Sea Knight, which it flew exclusively for 15 years. In 2002 HC-6 became the first East Coast squadron to retire the HH-46 and transition to the MH-60S Knighthawk — conducting the type's first operational deployment and the first at-sea MH-60S rescue on September 7, 2002. On April 1, 2005 HC-6 was redesignated Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 26 (HSC-26) when the Navy merged its Helicopter Anti-Submarine and Helicopter Combat Support communities. Today HSC-26 is the largest HSC squadron in the wing, training pilots and aircrewmen across fleet logistics, search and rescue, medical evacuation, special warfare support, and anti-surface warfare missions.
Perfect For: HSC-26 Chargers active-duty and veteran personnel, MH-60S Knighthawk pilots, naval aircrewmen, and maintainers, Naval Station Norfolk Virginia residents, HC-6 / HU-2 / HU-4 helicopter heritage veterans, H-46 Sea Knight (Phrog) community alumni, search and rescue (SAR) and vertical replenishment (VERTREP) supporters, and naval helicopter community enthusiasts.
