Helicopter Combat Support Squadron 5 (HC-5), the "Providers," was a U.S. Navy helicopter squadron based at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, providing vertical replenishment (VERTREP), search and rescue, medical evacuation, and combat support across the Western Pacific. HC-5 operated the CH-46D Sea Knight and later the MH-60S Knighthawk, deploying detachments aboard ships throughout the Pacific Fleet. The Providers were the only forward-deployed combat support helicopter squadron in the Navy, giving them a unique role in sustaining fleet operations across the vast distances of the Pacific Ocean. HC-5 was redesignated as HSC-25 "Island Knights" as part of the Navy's helicopter community realignment.
