NAS Lakehurst — USN Embroidered Patch
Home of Lighter-Than-Air
NAS Lakehurst is forever etched in aviation history as the site of the Hindenburg disaster and the birthplace of Naval lighter-than-air operations. This officially licensed patch represents the sailors and Marines who served at one of the most historically significant naval air stations in the world.
Naval Air Station Lakehurst, located in Manchester Township, New Jersey, has been central to Naval aviation since its establishment in 1921 as a lighter-than-air base. The station was the operating base for the Navy's rigid airships, including the USS Shenandoah, USS Akron, and USS Macon, and was the site of the 1937 Hindenburg disaster. After the end of the airship era, Lakehurst transitioned to helicopter and aircraft testing, and served as a Naval aviation training and support installation. The station is now part of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
Perfect For:
NAS Lakehurst veterans, Naval lighter-than-air history enthusiasts, New Jersey military community, and naval air station heritage collectors.
