MALS squadrons are the backbone of Marine aviation maintenance and logistics, responsible for intermediate-level maintenance, supply chain management, aviation ordnance, and all the technical support functions that keep aircraft in the air and weapons on the wings. MALS-41 supports the squadrons of MAG-41, providing the maintenance expertise, parts, and logistics that allow reserve Marine aviators to maintain combat readiness alongside their active-duty counterparts. The 'Desperados' nickname captures the gritty, resourceful spirit of reserve Marines who often do more with less — maintaining complex aircraft systems while balancing civilian careers and military service. Marine Aviation Logistics Squadrons trace their organizational lineage to the Marine Corps' recognition that modern combat aircraft require dedicated, highly skilled maintenance organizations operating independently from the flying squadrons they support. Every F/A-18, every KC-130, every helicopter that flies under a MAG-41 banner does so because MALS-41 Marines maintained it, inspected it, armed it, and cleared it for flight.
