The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, is one of the Marine Corps' premier crisis response forces. With roughly 2,400 Marines and Sailors organized into a complete Marine Air-Ground Task Force, the 26th MEU has been America's force in readiness in the Mediterranean region for over 20 years. The unit was the first MAU to earn the Special Operations Capable (SOC) designation and the first to have AV-8B Harriers attached. From Operation Silver Wake evacuating U.S. citizens from Albania to being the initial entry force into Kosovo, from Operation Iraqi Freedom in northern Iraq to establishing Firebase Bell in support of the Mosul offensive against ISIS in 2016, the 26th MEU has answered the nation's call on every deployment.
