VUQ-10 was established on 1 October 2022 at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland, as the Fleet Replacement Squadron for the Boeing MQ-25 Stingray. The squadron's primary mission is to man, train, and equip air vehicle pilots and maintainers to operate the Stingray in the fleet. The MQ-25 is designed to extend the carrier air wing's strike range by conducting aerial refueling at distances previously unachievable, freeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornets to carry ordnance instead of fuel. Secondary missions include recovery tanking and organic intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance support to the Carrier Strike Group. On April 25, 2026, the first production-representative MQ-25A completed its maiden flight, and in May 2026 the program reached Milestone C and was cleared for Low-Rate Initial Production — a turning point in unmanned carrier aviation history. The first operational MQ-25 squadron, VUQ-11, was established on 1 April 2026 at NAS Patuxent River, with both VUQ-10 and VUQ-11 ultimately relocating to Naval Base Ventura County Point Mugu, California.
