Official VMM-362 (REIN) Ugly Angels ACE 26.2 Africa Patch — Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 362 Reinforced Embroidered Patch
Ugly Angels in Africa — VMM-362 (REIN) carries the 26th MEU's aviation combat element to the continent.
Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 362 (VMM-362), the "Ugly Angels," is a United States Marine Corps MV-22B Osprey squadron based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, under Marine Aircraft Group 16 and the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. The Ugly Angels' lineage stretches back to April 20, 1952, and the squadron holds the extraordinary distinction of being the first Marine aircraft unit deployed to South Vietnam — landing at Sóc Trăng Airfield in the Mekong Delta on April 15, 1962, in Operation Shufly. Commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Archie Clapp, the squadron earned the nickname "Archie's Angels," which evolved into the iconic "Ugly Angels" callsign. After decades of combat operations in Vietnam, Desert Storm, Haiti, and Afghanistan — including the CH-53D's final operational flights in 2012 — VMM-362 was reactivated on August 17, 2018, as an MV-22B Osprey squadron and declared fully operational capable on February 28, 2020. This patch commemorates VMM-362 (Reinforced) serving as the Aviation Combat Element for the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit's Africa deployment.
Perfect For: VMM-362 Ugly Angels active-duty members and veterans, 26th MEU personnel, MV-22B Osprey crews, MCAS Miramar Marines, MAG-16 and 3rd MAW personnel, and Marine aviation deployment patch collectors.
Ugly Angels in Africa — VMM-362 keeps the legacy flying.
