Official VMM-261 Raging Bulls 75th Anniversary Patch — Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 261 MV-22B Osprey MCAS New River 75 Year Embroidered Patch

First in, last out — VMM-261 Raging Bulls, 75 years from HRS to MV-22B.

Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 261 (VMM-261), the "Raging Bulls," is a USMC MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor squadron based at MCAS New River, North Carolina, under MAG-26 and the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. The squadron was originally established on April 5, 1951 at MCAS Cherry Point as Marine Helicopter Transport Squadron 261 (HMR-261), making 2026 the squadron's 75th anniversary year. In 1954 the unit relocated to MCAS New River, where it has remained based ever since, and has been redesignated successively as HMR(L)-261 (December 1956), Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 261 (HMM-261, February 1962), and finally Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 261 (VMM-261) on April 10, 2008 — becoming the fourth Marine Corps squadron to transition to the Bell Boeing MV-22 Osprey. Across 75 years the Raging Bulls have flown the HRS (1951–1956), the HUS-1 / CH-34D Seahorse (1956–1967), the CH-46A (1967–1968), CH-46D (1968–1975), CH-46F (1975–1984), CH-46E Sea Knight (1984–2008), and the MV-22B Osprey (2008–present), and have participated in operations spanning the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm, Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, and continuous II MEF Marine Expeditionary Unit deployments aboard amphibious ready groups across the Mediterranean, the US 5th Fleet, and the US 6th Fleet areas of operations. The squadron's motto, "First in, Last out," captures the assault-support tiltrotor identity that defines the Raging Bulls.

Perfect For: VMM-261 Raging Bulls active-duty and veteran Marines, MV-22B Osprey pilots, crew chiefs, and maintainers, MCAS New River residents and Eastern North Carolina Marine Corps community, MAG-26 and 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing personnel, II MEF and Marine Expeditionary Unit alumni, HMM-261 CH-46 Sea Knight (Phrog) heritage Marines, and Vietnam-era and Cold War-era Raging Bulls veterans.

Raging Bulls — First in, Last out, since 1951.
