Official VMM-163 (REIN) Desert Shoulder Patch - Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 163 Reinforced, Evil Eyes, MV-22B Osprey Embroidered Desert Shoulder Patch.
Evil Eyes over the desert — the patch that marks one of Marine aviation's most storied assault support squadrons in its CENTCOM Reinforced configuration.
VMM-163, known as the Evil Eyes, traces its lineage to December 1951 and carries one of the most decorated combat records in Marine rotary-wing aviation. The squadron earned its original Ridge Runners nickname during typhoon rescue operations in mountainous Japan in 1953, then built its combat reputation across Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, and the Global War on Terror. When deployed as a Reinforced squadron, VMM-163 (REIN) expands beyond its core MV-22B Osprey element to absorb attachments from other aviation communities, giving the unit a broader assault support footprint suited to expeditionary and desert operations. In 2001, flying with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, HMM-163 (REIN) planned and executed the longest amphibious assault in American military history, seizing a forward operating base deep in southern Afghanistan and remaining forward deployed for seven weeks. The squadron went on to support combat operations in Iraq during the 13th MEU deployment of 2005, logging thousands of combat flight hours across Al Asad, Al Qaim, and Al Taqaddum. The desert shoulder patch format ties directly to those CENTCOM deployments, marking the crews, maintainers, and attached personnel who flew and sustained the mission in austere, high-tempo environments where the Reinforced designation meant everything.
Perfect For: VMM-163 veterans and alumni, Evil Eyes crew members and maintainers, Marine Expeditionary Unit collectors, 15th MEU and 13th MEU supporters, MAG-16 and 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing enthusiasts, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom memorabilia collections, shadow boxes, deployment reunion displays, challenge coin and patch boards, and anyone building a serious Marine aviation collection around CENTCOM-era assault support heritage and MV-22B Osprey operations.
Evil Eyes heritage, stitched for the desert, the deployment, and the long memory of Marine assault support.
