After transitioning through the F/A-18A, F/A-18C, and F/A-18E Super Hornet, the Warhawks became the second fleet squadron in the Navy to transition to the F-35C Lightning II in 2021, joining Carrier Air Wing Two at NAS Lemoore. The squadron also made history in 2004 as the first Navy F/A-18 unit to participate in the Unit Deployment Program at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, deepening a long operational relationship with Marine Corps aviation.
