Official VAQ-140 Patriots EA-18G Jacket Patch — Electronic Attack Squadron 140 EA-18G Growler NAS Whidbey Island Embroidered Jacket Patch
Patriots fly the spectrum — VAQ-140, EA-18G Growlers off USS George H.W. Bush.
Electronic Attack Squadron 140 (VAQ-140), the "Patriots," is a US Navy carrier-deployable electronic attack squadron based at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington, currently flying the Boeing EA-18G Growler and assigned to Carrier Air Wing SEVEN (CVW-7) aboard USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77). The squadron was established on October 1, 1985 at NAS Whidbey Island flying the EA-6B Prowler, and earned an early operational distinction as the first Prowler squadron to operationally deploy with the AGM-88 High-Speed Anti-Radiation Missile (HARM) — embarked aboard USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) in August 1986 — establishing the Prowler community's role as the carrier air wing's primary suppression of enemy air defenses (SEAD) and stand-off jamming platform. Across the next three decades the Patriots compiled a remarkable combat record: deployment during Operation Desert Shield in September 1991, combat operations over the Balkans 1995–1999 — including commanding Electronic Attack Wing Aviano during Operation Allied Force, where the wing flew over 740 combat missions and fired 117 HARMs — and 100% combat sortie completion rates during 2002 and 2004 deployments. On November 9, 2006 the squadron made history by flying simultaneous combat missions over Iraq and Afghanistan from a single carrier deployment. VAQ-140 transitioned from the EA-6B Prowler to the EA-18G Growler in 2014. This jacket patch carries the squadron's distinctive Patriots emblem.
Perfect For: VAQ-140 Patriots active-duty and veteran personnel, EA-18G Growler pilots, electronic warfare officers (EWO), and maintainers, NAS Whidbey Island residents and Oak Harbor naval aviation community, Carrier Air Wing 7 personnel, USS George H.W.
