USS Nimitz CVN-68 Taco Centurion Patch — Embroidered Patch
Taco Centurion — USS Nimitz (CVN-68)
USS Nimitz (CVN-68) is the lead ship of the Nimitz-class supercarriers and one of the most iconic warships in the history of the United States Navy. Named after Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, the legendary commander of the Pacific Fleet during World War II, the Nimitz was commissioned on 3 May 1975 by President Gerald R. Ford at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia. Measuring 1,092 feet in length and displacing over 100,000 tons fully loaded, she is among the largest warships ever built.
Across nearly five decades of continuous service, USS Nimitz has deployed to virtually every major theater of operations the Navy has faced. During her 1981 Mediterranean deployment, F-14 Tomcats from VF-41 embarked aboard Nimitz shot down two Libyan Su-22 fighters in the Gulf of Sidra. She served as the platform for Operation Eagle Claw, the attempted rescue of American hostages in Iran. The carrier has deployed in support of Operations Desert Storm, Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom, and in 2003 launched the first operational deployments of both the F/A-18F Super Hornet and E-2C Hawkeye 2000. In November 2014, the first carrier arrested landing of the F-35C Lightning II took place on her deck.
Now the oldest serving aircraft carrier in the world following the decommissioning of USS Enterprise, Nimitz returned from her final deployment in December 2025 and is scheduled for decommissioning in 2026, closing out a half-century of faithful service.
Perfect For: Sailors and officers who served aboard USS Nimitz, CVW-17 and CVW-11 aircrew, carrier strike group veterans, Navy culinary specialists, and collectors of naval aviation heritage.
This Taco Centurion patch celebrates the unique traditions aboard "Old Salt" — where five decades of service have forged an unbreakable bond among the crew of America's flagship supercarrier.
