Coast Guard Air Station Ventura became operational in spring 2024 and was formally commissioned on November 13, 2024, at Naval Base Ventura County in Point Mugu, California, making it the first new Coast Guard air station stood up in more than 25 years. The station fills a critical gap left when Air Station Los Angeles lost its lease at LAX in 2016, after which crews flew from a Forward Operating Base supported by Air Station San Francisco. The permanent facility features a modern 48,000-square-foot hangar and a 12,000-square-foot administration building, housing three Sikorsky MH-60T Jayhawk helicopters and approximately 100 personnel under District Eleven. Its area of responsibility stretches from Dana Point to Morro Bay, covering the Channel Islands and the major commercial ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Mission sets include 24/7 search and rescue, emergency medical evacuation, drug and migrant interdiction, law enforcement, and marine environmental protection. Before its commissioning ceremony, the station's crews had already completed multiple open-ocean hoist rescues, demonstrating the immediate operational value of a permanent southern California aviation presence. This embroidered patch marks the insignia of a unit that represents a genuine milestone in Coast Guard aviation history on the Pacific coast.
