The Yuma Air Branch operates under CBP's Air and Marine Operations and is responsible for patrolling more than 125 miles of international border spanning both California and Arizona. As part of AMO's Southwest Region, which covers more than 2,000 linear miles of border between the United States and Mexico, the branch deploys AS350 and EC120 helicopter crews on a mission set that includes aerial surveillance, counter-narcotics, anti-smuggling operations, and search and rescue across the unforgiving terrain of the Sonoran Desert. Yuma-based aircrews have at times accounted for more than a third of all Southwest Region rescues in a single fiscal year, coordinating closely with Yuma and Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents to reach people in distress across remote mountain ranges and open desert. That combination of law enforcement precision and humanitarian response gives the Yuma Air Branch insignia a weight that goes well beyond a standard agency logo.
