Official US Navy VFA-105 Gunslingers Shoulder Patches — Tonight We Ride
The Gunslingers don't ask for permission. They ask for targets.
VFA-105 "Gunslingers" is a Strike Fighter Squadron flying the F/A-18E Super Hornet out of NAS Oceana, Virginia. Established as VA-105 on November 1, 1967, the Gunslingers cut their teeth flying A-7A Corsair IIs in combat during the Vietnam War, including strikes during Linebacker I and II operations against North Vietnam. The squadron transitioned to the F/A-18C Hornet in 1990 and became the first East Coast squadron to transition to the F/A-18E Super Hornet in July 2006. In March 2007, VFA-105 made history again when CDR Sara Joyner became the first woman to command an operational Navy strike fighter squadron. The Gunslingers have deployed in support of Operations Desert Fox, Southern Watch, Iraqi Freedom, Inherent Resolve, and participated in strikes on Yemen in January 2024. Their motto, "Tonight We Ride," captures the swagger and combat readiness that defines this legendary East Coast fighter squadron.
