America 250 over the Coastal Bend — TW-4, primary and advanced training, NAS Corpus Christi.
Training Air Wing FOUR (TW-4) is one of five training air wings of the United States Navy's Naval Air Training Command (CNATRA), headquartered at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas, and was established in March 1972 to consolidate primary and advanced training squadrons in the Texas Coastal Bend under a single training-wing command. TW-4 comprises four training squadrons: VT-27 Boomers and VT-28 Rangers (primary training in the T-6B Texan II), VT-31 Wise Owls (advanced multi-engine training in the T-44C Pegasus and now the T-54A Marlin II), and VT-35 Stingrays (advanced multi-engine training, currently transitioning from the T-44C to the T-54A Marlin II — first squadron to fly the type on June 19, 2025). The wing has a combined strength of more than 195 officers, 645 enlisted personnel, and 540 civilians, with more than 130 aircraft assigned, and handles intermediate and advanced training for student naval aviators selecting the E-2/C-2 Hawkeye/Greyhound, Maritime Patrol (P-3/P-8), and E-6 TACAMO communication-relay pipelines. TW-4 also includes a Flight Instructor Training Unit (FITU) that produces instructor pilots for the T-6B and T-44C/T-54A airframes. This 250th 4th of July patch is a limited-run Independence Day variant marking the United States' 250th anniversary in 2026.
