Official TACAMO Weapons School Throwback Patch - U.S. Navy TACAMO Weapons School (TWS) Nuclear Command and Control Community Embroidered Throwback Patch, Strategic Communications Wing One, Tinker Air Force Base.
Take Charge and Move Out — the school that sets the standard for the crews who keep the nation's most critical communications link alive and airborne.
The TACAMO Weapons School was established as a full command at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma, growing out of the Strategic Communications Wing One's Weapons Tactics Detachment to become the Navy's dedicated center of excellence for E-6B Mercury tactics and training. Founded in July 2019 under the Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center umbrella, the school trains the TACAMO community in advanced tactics, techniques, and procedures across all mission areas, and provides subject matter expertise to government agencies on the Nuclear Command and Control mission. The TACAMO name itself, an acronym for Take Charge and Move Out, defines a survivable airborne communications system designed to link the National Command Authority directly with submarines, bombers, and missile silos — a no-fail mission that has been airborne in one form or another since the early 1960s. A throwback patch tied to this school carries the weight of that entire lineage, from the EC-130Q Hercules era through the Boeing E-6B Mercury and into the next generation of strategic communications aircraft. The embroidered format gives the design a classic, tactile feel suited to shadow boxes, flight bags, cruise displays, and serious unit-history collections.
Perfect For: TACAMO community veterans, E-6B Mercury aircrew and maintainers, Strategic Communications Wing One alumni, VQ-3 Ironmen and VQ-4 Shadows veterans, TACAMO Weapons School graduates, nuclear command and control historians, Navy strategic deterrence collectors, shadow box builders, reunion displays, and anyone preserving the story of the Navy's most consequential airborne communications mission. It also makes a meaningful gift for families and supporters who want a specific, researched piece tied to the crews and instructors who keep the deterrence link unbroken around the clock.
Throwback design, enduring mission — stitched for the community that never stops flying the watch.
