Naval Air Facility El Centro has operated continuously since its commissioning in 1946, growing from a Marine Corps Air Station into a premier Navy training installation under Navy Region Southwest. Situated in California's Imperial Valley, the facility serves as the winter training home of the Blue Angels and supports active and reserve aviation squadrons conducting aerial combat maneuvering, air-to-air gunnery, bombing, and carrier landing practice year-round. Protecting that level of flight-line activity demands a dedicated emergency services department equal to the mission. The Federal Fire Department at NAF El Centro provides fire protection, medical emergency response, hazardous materials incident management, motor vehicle accident response, and rescue operations for the base and surrounding community. In December 2024, NAFEC opened a state-of-the-art firehouse that strengthened mutual aid coordination with local Imperial Valley fire departments, reflecting the department's dual role as both a military installation resource and a regional public safety partner. This embroidered patch represents the men and women who stand ready around the clock to protect aircraft, personnel, and infrastructure at one of the Navy's most active and demanding training environments.
