MALS-36 Production Control Patch
Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 36 (MALS-36) — "Bladerunner" — Production Control Section
MALS-36 was first activated as Headquarters Squadron 36 (HS-36) at Marine Corps Air Facility Santa Ana, California in June 1952, assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 36. Redesignated as Headquarters and Maintenance Squadron 36 (H&MS-36) in February 1954, the squadron participated in Exercise Desert Rock VI in 1955, supporting the airlift of 3rd Marine Corps troops from Camp Pendleton to Nevada for atomic testing exercises.
H&MS-36 deployed to Vietnam in August 1965 aboard USS Princeton, operating from Kỳ Hà and Phu Bai from September 1965 through November 1969, providing over four years of continuous maintenance and logistics support to MAG-36's combat squadrons during some of the heaviest fighting of the war. After redeploying to MCAS Futenma, Okinawa in November 1969, the squadron was redesignated Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 36 on 1 October 1988. MALS-36 has since supported Operations Fiery Vigil in the Philippines (1991), Restore Hope in Somalia (1992-1993), Stabilize in East Timor (1999-2000), and Iraqi Freedom when a detachment deployed with HMM-262 in 2007. Today, MALS-36 provides intermediate-level maintenance, supply support, and aviation logistics to MAG-36 at MCAS Futenma, supporting MV-22 Osprey and CH-53E/K platforms. The squadron was named the Marine Corps Aviation Association's MALS of the Year in 2020 and received the Secretary of Defense Maintenance Award that same year.
Perfect For: MALS-36 Bladerunner veterans and active duty Marines, MAG-36 and 1st MAW personnel, MCAS Futenma community members, Marine aviation maintenance professionals, and production control specialists.
This patch represents the Production Control section — the heart of MALS-36's maintenance operations that keeps every aircraft mission-capable on the front lines of Pacific readiness.
