Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 13 was activated on 1 March 1942 at San Diego, California, and went on to serve in the Pacific theater during World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Redesignated as MALS-13 on 5 October 1988 and relocated to Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, the Black Widows provide intermediate-level maintenance and supply support to the operational squadrons of Marine Aircraft Group 13, which today stands as the Marine Corps' exclusive all F-35 MAG. With more than 600 officers and enlisted Marines, MALS-13 is the largest squadron in MAG-13, keeping aircraft mission-ready across every deployment cycle and contingency.
