Official HSM-74 Swamp Foxes AUTEC detachment patch.

ALFS in the dip, AUTEC range hot, Swamp Foxes on the hunt.

Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 74 (HSM-74), the "Swamp Foxes," is a U.S. Navy MH-60R Seahawk squadron based at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida and assigned to Carrier Air Wing THREE (CVW-3). The squadron was originally established as HSL-44 "Swamp Foxes" on August 21, 1986 flying the SH-60B Seahawk in the LAMPS Mk III role, and was redesignated HSM-74 on June 9, 2011 when it transitioned to the MH-60R and shifted from expeditionary HSL operations to dedicated carrier air wing support. HSM-74 fields twelve MH-60Rs organized into four combat elements — one carrier element and three detachments, each able to operate independently from RAST-capable frigates, destroyers, and cruisers in addition to the carrier itself. The squadron's missions include anti-submarine warfare with the AN/AQS-22 Airborne Low Frequency Sonar (ALFS), surface warfare with AGM-114 Hellfire and APKWS II laser-guided rockets, command and control, electronic warfare, search and rescue, MEDEVAC, and vertical replenishment. HSM-74 Detachment 3 regularly deploys to AUTEC — the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center on Andros Island, Bahamas — to put the MH-60R's ALFS dipping sonar through its paces against live-target ASW training scenarios on one of the world's most instrumented underwater ranges. In 2016 the Swamp Foxes flew the first swing-loaded operational flight with both Hellfire missiles and APKWS II rockets — yet another first for the MH-60R community. This patch carries the AUTEC heritage forward.

Perfect For: HSM-74 Swamp Foxes active-duty and veteran personnel, HSL-44 plankowners, MH-60R Seahawk pilots and aircrew, AUTEC detachment Sailors, NAS Jacksonville and CVW-3 personnel, ALFS dipping sonar operators, and Atlantic Fleet helicopter maritime strike community collectors.
