HSM-37 was established on 3 July 1975 at Naval Air Station Barbers Point as a light helicopter anti-submarine squadron and has grown into the largest expeditionary helicopter squadron in the U.S. Navy, operating fifteen MH-60R Seahawks from Marine Corps Base Hawaii on Kaneohe Bay. The squadron made history in 1992 as the first Navy unit to transition from the SH-2F Seasprite to the SH-60B Seahawk, and it later redesignated as HSM-37 in October 2013 as it moved into the MH-60R era. As the only helicopter maritime strike squadron in the Middle Pacific region, HSM-37 detachments deploy aboard Arleigh Burke-class destroyers and Ticonderoga-class cruisers operating across the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans, executing anti-submarine warfare, surface warfare, search and rescue, and vertical replenishment missions. The squadron backs that operational record with multiple Meritorious Unit Commendations, Battle Efficiency awards, CNO Aviation Safety awards, and HSMWINGPAC Top Torpedo awards.
