HSC-14 was established as Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 14 at Naval Air Station North Island in 1984, originally flying the SH-3H Sea King before transitioning through the SH-60F and ultimately to the MH-60S Seahawk. Redesignated Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 14 in 2013, the Chargers are assigned to Carrier Air Wing Nine and deploy aboard USS Abraham Lincoln. Their mission set spans anti-surface warfare, combat search and rescue, naval special warfare support, anti-ship missile defense, and vertical replenishment, making the squadron one of the most versatile rotary-wing units in the Pacific Fleet. The unit earned a Navy Unit Commendation during Operation Desert Storm in 1991 and built a reputation for humanitarian response that stretches back to a 1989 South China Sea rescue of 37 Vietnamese refugees — a record for a deployed helicopter squadron at the time. In late February 2026, operating off Abraham Lincoln as part of CVW-9, HSC-14 flew combat sorties during Operation Epic Fury, adding a confirmed combat engagement to a unit history that already spans Desert Storm, Operation Tomodachi humanitarian relief, and decades of forward-deployed Pacific service.
