Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron at MCAS New River is the administrative and operational backbone of the East Coast's primary Marine Corps helicopter installation. The squadron traces its roots to the establishment of MCAS New River in 1943, when the airfield was stood up to support training and operations for nearby Camp Lejeune during World War II. Since those early days, H&HS has provided the full range of station support that keeps aviation units ready to fly and fight, including personnel administration, supply, motor transport, airfield operations, public affairs, and legal services. MCAS New River grew from a wartime auxiliary airfield into a major installation, earning full air station designation in 1968 and becoming home to Marine Aircraft Group 26, Marine Aircraft Group 29, and the East Coast fleet of MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor aircraft. A 75th anniversary patch marks that long arc of institutional service, connecting the Marines who built the station's early identity with the generations who have sustained it through every deployment, exercise, and crisis response since.
