VFA-211, the Fighting Checkmates, traces its lineage to Bombing Squadron 74, established on 1 May 1945, making it one of the Navy's longest-serving strike fighter communities. Today the squadron flies the F/A-18E Super Hornet and operates as part of Carrier Air Wing Eleven, the air wing attached to USS Theodore Roosevelt and based at NAS Lemoore, California. CVW-11 has carried its Barbwire call sign through World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and sustained combat operations across the Middle East, giving every squadron under its banner a deep operational pedigree. RIMPAC 2026, the 30th iteration of the Rim of the Pacific exercise, ran June 24 through July 31 in and around the Hawaiian Islands, bringing together 30 nations, more than 30,000 personnel, and nearly 200 aircraft under the theme Partners: Integrated and Prepared. For VFA-211 aircrew flying Super Hornets in that multinational environment, the exercise represented the kind of coalition air integration that defines modern carrier strike readiness. This embroidered patch marks that specific moment — a named squadron, a named air wing, and a named exercise — giving the piece a precision that separates it from generic naval aviation memorabilia.
