The 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines, known as The Cutting Edge, was activated on 1 January 1941 at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and has fought in every major American conflict since World War II. The battalion earned a Presidential Unit Citation at Guadalcanal in 1942, fought through the brutal terrain of Peleliu and Okinawa, held the line at the Chosin Reservoir in Korea, and completed eleven combat deployments during the Global War on Terror across Iraq, Afghanistan, and Operation Inherent Resolve. Kilo Company carries its own distinct place in that record. During the 2004 deployment to Al Anbar Province, Kilo Company squad leader Corporal Jason Dunham was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for actions in the city of Karabilah, Iraq, making his sacrifice one of the defining moments in the battalion's modern history. Based at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California, 3/7 remains an active light infantry battalion under the 7th Marine Regiment and 1st Marine Division, its mission unchanged since 1941: locate, close with, and destroy the enemy by fire and close combat. This vinyl sticker represents that unbroken line of service and the Kilo Company Marines who carried the battalion's name forward under fire.
