The Seabees are the military's construction warriors — the men and women who build the infrastructure of war while defending it with rifles. This officially licensed Navy Seabees patch honors the Naval Construction Battalions whose motto "Construimus, Batuimus" (We Build, We Fight) has been proven in every conflict since World War II.
The United States Navy Seabees were established in 1942 after the attack on Pearl Harbor demonstrated the need for militarized construction units that could build and defend forward operating bases under combat conditions. During World War II, Seabees constructed airfields, roads, bridges, and harbors across the Pacific Theater, often under enemy fire. In Vietnam, they built the infrastructure that supported Marine and Army operations in I Corps, including runways, bunkers, and defensive positions. Seabee units have continued to serve in every major operation since, from Desert Storm through Iraq and Afghanistan, building everything from forward operating bases to schools and medical clinics during humanitarian missions. The Seabee fighting bee mascot — carrying tools and a machine gun — perfectly captures the dual nature of their mission.
