They build the airfields, pump the fuel, maintain the facilities, and defend the perimeter — all in the kind of heat and conditions that would break lesser units. This patch is earned through sweat equity.
MWSS-273 provides expeditionary airfield operations, engineer support, bulk fuel distribution, motor transport, communications, and ground defense for the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. The Sweat Hogs have deployed worldwide, establishing aviation operating bases in environments ranging from the scorching deserts of Southwest Asia to the humid tropics of the Pacific. Whether pouring concrete on a new expeditionary runway or pumping thousands of gallons of aviation fuel under combat conditions, MWSS-273 Marines get the job done through pure determination and effort.
