The Firebirds of MWSS-172 bring the fire — literally. From aviation fuels distribution to crash rescue, from expeditionary airfield construction to base defense, this squadron provides the essential ground support that keeps Marine aviation burning hot in the Pacific theater.
MWSS-172 provides expeditionary airfield operations, engineer support, bulk fuel distribution, aircraft rescue and firefighting, motor transport, communications, and ground defense for Marine aviation units in the Pacific. The Firebirds can rapidly establish and sustain aviation operating bases in austere environments across the Indo-Pacific, providing the infrastructure that allows Marine tactical aircraft to project power from forward locations. The squadron's Marines are trained to operate in the most challenging conditions, from tropical island environments to desert expeditionary airfields.
