This patch represents the reserve Marines who maintained expeditionary engineering and logistics skills alongside their civilian careers.
Marine Wing Support Group 47 served as the higher headquarters for reserve Marine Wing Support Squadrons within the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing. The group's reserve Marines specialized in expeditionary airfield construction, bulk fuel operations, engineer support, motor transport, communications, and base defense. When mobilized, MWSG-47 units deployed alongside active component forces, providing the additional ground support capacity needed during major combat operations and contingencies.
