The Carolinas have been the heartland of Marine Corps MV-22B Osprey operations since the aircraft entered fleet service. Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville, North Carolina is home to VMMT-204, the Raptors, the only Marine Osprey training squadron in the world, along with Marine Aircraft Group 26 and multiple operational VMM squadrons under the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. MCAS Cherry Point, also in North Carolina, anchors the broader East Coast Marine aviation support network. Together these installations form the foundation where Osprey pilots, crew chiefs, and maintainers are trained, qualified, and prepared for global deployment. The MV-22B combines vertical takeoff and landing capability with the speed and range of a turboprop airplane, giving Marine assault support a reach that legacy rotorcraft could never match. The aircraft now accounts for roughly 75 percent of the Marine Corps rotary wing capability and is planned to remain operational through 2055.
