MH-53E Sea Dragon Shoulder Patch — US Navy Airborne Mine Countermeasures Helicopter Embroidered Patch
The Sea Dragon — the Navy's heavy-lift mine hunter, clearing the sea lanes so the fleet can advance.
The Sikorsky MH-53E Sea Dragon is the U.S. Navy's airborne mine countermeasures (AMCM) helicopter — the largest and most powerful helicopter in the Navy inventory. The Sea Dragon tows mine countermeasures sleds through mined waters, using the helicopter's massive power to drag mechanical, acoustic, and magnetic minesweeping equipment at the speeds and depths required to detonate or neutralize naval mines. The MH-53E also performs heavy vertical replenishment (VERTREP), moving cargo and ammunition between ships at sea. HM-14 "Vanguard" and HM-15 "Blackhawks" have been the primary Navy squadrons operating the Sea Dragon. As the MH-53E approaches the end of its service life, the aircraft will be remembered as the backbone of U.S. airborne mine warfare for over four decades.
Perfect For:
MH-53E Sea Dragon aircrew and maintainers, HM-14 and HM-15 personnel, Navy mine countermeasures community members, heavy helicopter enthusiasts, and USN aviation patch collectors.
