Marine Forces Command is the Marine Corps' operational headquarters for the East Coast — the command that oversees II Marine Expeditionary Force and ensures that Marine forces in the Atlantic theater are trained, equipped, and ready to deploy anywhere in the world on short notice.
Marine Corps Forces Command (MARFORCOM), headquartered at Naval Support Activity Norfolk, Virginia, is the Marine Corps component command to United States Joint Forces Command and serves as the East Coast operational headquarters. MARFORCOM exercises operational control over II MEF and its subordinate units based at Camp Lejeune, MCAS Cherry Point, MCAS New River, and other installations throughout the southeastern United States. The command is responsible for ensuring that East Coast Marine forces maintain the readiness and combat capability needed to deploy in support of combatant commanders worldwide. MARFORCOM also manages the Global Force Management process for Marine forces and coordinates interoperability with joint and allied partners.
